Thérèse Raquin

“When there is no hope in the future, the present appears atrociously bitter.”

Thérèse Raquin in the Bute at RWCMD. I was a part of a scenic team working on this show and worked a lot on layering the blue walls and floor. I also spent a lot of time on the floor boards.

Set design by Hester Irma Haslett-Venus. Directed by Patricia Logue. Show photography by Simon Gough.

Process Work

Photographs taken throughout the making process and tech week. We layered up plaster and paint meticulously and added layers of washes and glaze to finish it. The floor boards were painted with brown idenden texturing. Over this we painted exaggerated undertones and then layers of dry brushing and glazes. The sampling process can be seen below

Painting the Portrait

The painting needed to look like a Cezanne painting and like the actor it's supposed to be of. The painting on the left is the most accurate depiction of the actor. In the play the painting's meant to be bad so from here I made it uglier and less accurate.
