Giant Plaques

Recreating ‘The Death of Nelson’ from Nelsons Column

Team of sculptors: Blythe Brett, Ruby Boswell-Green, Bence Baksa, Megan Ricketts

Trafalgar Square Plaque made as part of my BA1 props project with a team of designers. Most of the plaque is polystyrene carved in the style of relief sculpture. Some elements of the plaque are cast. We used three heads which we cast many times and altered for each character. There were also cast hands, arms, one leg and a few feet. Once the sculptures had been refined we draped calico to create the effect of clothing and then scrimed all the bare polystyrene. Finally we painted into it with dyed idenden and added a metallic sheen with graphite powder

Scenic Art and Props

Sculpted by Rorie Brophy Scenic art by Megan Ricketts

A very large copy of an extraordinary Irish silver plaque for Waterford medieval museum. I did the scenic art job but was not part of sculpting it. The plaque was painted with a mixture of spray paint and hamerite paints.
